From July 4th until September 25th, 2022, the FEMINIST AVANT-GARDE show from the VERBUND COLLECTION will be one of the main exhibitions of the renowned French Photographic Festival Les Rencontres de la Photographie d'Arles.
More than 200 works by over 70 female artists will be shown at the impressive LUMA Foundation, Atelier de la Mécanique, in the southern French city of Arles under the title UNE AVANT-GARDE FÉMINISTE. Photographies et Performances des années 1970 de la COLLECTION VERBUND, Vienne. Among them are works by Marisa González, ORLAN, Lynn Hershman Lesson, Eleanor Antin, VALIE EXPORT and Judy Chicago.
Curated by founding director Gabriele Schor, the exhibition focuses on photographs and videos, while also presenting selected drawings. For the first time in the history of art, these pioneering artists created an entirely "new image of a woman" from a female perspective.
