José Jiménez’s 'El aprendiz en el sol. Marcel Duchamp y la experiencia estética de la modernidad' official presentation in Madrid’s Circulo de Bellas Artes

June 16, 2023

Over the course of four decades, José Jiménez has been developing a journey that is now structured as a philosophical dialogue. The book unfolds a new synthesis in order to demonstrate to what extent Marcel Duchamp's work and public position may convey us questions of great relevance about today’s human condition, through his way of understanding art as an action, a mental-visual construction in which poetry and philosophy are integrated as a background.

For the occasion, he will be accompanied by the artist and recipient of the Premio Velázquez, Concha Jerez, and Fernando Castro Flórez, Professor of Aesthetics at the Autonomous University of Madrid.

José Jiménez, Professor Emeritus of Aesthetics at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, has been publishing texts on Marcel Duchamp from 1984 to 2014. In 2012, under his direction, 'Escritos' Marcel Duchamp,  was published. His latest publications include the following titles: Teoría del arte (2002), La imagen surrealista (2013), Crítica en acto. Textos e intervenciones sobre arte y artistas españoles contemporáneos (2014), Imágenes del hombre. Fundamentos de Estética (new edition, revised, 2017) and Crítica del mundo imagen (2019).
