Rocío Garriga, Senyera d'Arts Visuals Award 2025

Artist Rocío Garriga has been awarded the Senyera d'Arts Visuals Award for her work ‘Sueño Ligero’. 

The Local Government Board of Valencia City Council has ratified the decision of the jury, made up of Marta López Ricarte, Director of the Museu de la Ciutat; María Ángeles López Izquierdo, from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Valencia; Blanca de la Torre, director of the IVAM; Juan Olivares, visual artist; and Jorge López, gallerist, which awarded the prize to the Valencian artist for ‘the originality with which she approaches social reflection based on a Kafkaesque reflection evoking the bureaucracy and paralysis of contemporary times’. 

‘Sueños Ligeros’ is a work composed of ‘two elements connected by colour: a landscape made from the pages of six copies of Kafka's ’The Castle" and the image of a Papaver Somniferum (opium poppy) printed on paper.  The resulting landscape shows a territory suspended between the legible and the veiled, thus presenting an image of the way we experience excessive paperwork and the obstacles that such paperwork can sometimes represent." (Garriga, 2025) As a result of the award, the piece will be on display at the Atarazanas del Grao, Valencia, from 5th December 2025 to 18th January 2026.

With this award, Rocío Garriga adds a new milestone to her career, consolidating her position as one of the leading voices in Valencian visual creation.
