Mar Solís
Spain, 1967.
Lives and works in Madrid.
Her work stems from sculpture as the core of formal research, from which she extends her practice to other media such as photography, drawing, video and performance. Through them she explores the relationship between space, matter, vacuum and time, integrating references from theoretical physics and philosophy. Her large-scale installations are translated into an immersive experience in which the viewer assumes an active role, becoming involved in the artistic process of the work.
Her recent exhibitions include ‘Origen’ (2025) at CentroCentro, curated by Lorena Martínez de Corral, "RIPPLE. Onda expansiva‘ (2022) in the exhibition ’Arte y espiritualidad‘ of the BBVA collection, curated by Alfonso de la Torre, ’Doble Oscilación‘ and ’Principio de incertidumbre‘ (2020-2021) at the Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid, as well as ’Fúrico: Materia Antimateria" (2019) at the Centro de Arte Alcobendas. In 2014 she presented "Silencio. Barahúnda" at the Centro Cultural Conde Duque, which marked a shift towards themes linked to physics. Among her most relevant exhibitions ‘La línea, La curva, La elipse’ (2012) at IVAM, curated by Rafael Sierra, brought together more than 40 sculptures in an installation that explored the void as sculptural matter.
Her work has been shown in numerous international institutions, such as the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum (Miami), the Instituto Cervantes in Damascus and Tangier, the Kasklauttanen Park (Lapland), and the Kyonggido Sculpture Park (South Korea). In Spain, her work is part of collections such as IVAM, Fundación Cristina Masaveu, BBVA, Museo Tiflológico, Comunidad de Madrid and Ayuntamiento de Madrid. She has received awards such as the Ojo Crítico RNE, Generación 2003 and grants such as the Delfina Foundation, Ville de Paris and the Beca Velázquez, among others.
