Lives and works in Madrid.

Solo exhibitions of Maté's work have been held at the Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros in Mexico City; Museo Patio Herreriano, Valladolid; and in Madrid at Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Círculo de Bellas Artes, Museo Lazaro Galdiano, Museo Cerralbo, the Spanish National Library and Sala Alcalá 31, among other venues.

Additionally, he has participated in group exhibitions at a wide-range of art venues such as Jeu de Paume, Paris, PS1 MOMA, New York, Fundacion Marcelino Botín, Santander,  Berardo Collection Museum, Lisbon, Centro de Arte 2 de Mayo, Madrid, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, Santiago de Chile, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Trento,  Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid, BOZAR, Brussels and Fundació Miró, Barcelona.

His works are included in the following collections: MUSAC Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León, Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Caja de Burgos, Artium Museo Vasco de Arte Contemporáneo, Vitoria, La Fundación Altadis, Paris, Centro Botín, Santander, Centro de Arte 2 de Mayo, Madrid, among others.

In 2014 he participated in the group exhibition "2014Poesía" at Freijo Gallery, curated by Francisco Carpio.
