Acción continua

Maribel Domènech

from January 10, 2023 to February 11, 2023

This exhibition traces a journey along some of the fundamental works in the career of Maribel Domènech (Spain, 1951), an artist, activist, researcher and professor, who focuses her artistic practice on social issues, gender and technology.

This is her first solo exhibition at Freijo Gallery and addresses a review of her light boxes from the late 80s, through her woven pieces, photographs, actions recorded on video, to one of her most recent works: the word empowerment turned into an extensive object of 4 meters with blue light.

The reflection on time and vital processes present in her work is captured in the title of the video piece that gives its name to this exhibition, Acción continua, in which the artist weaves every year "one more meter of existence". An action that began in 1993 with an initial production of 42 woven meters of PVC cable (alluding to her age at the time) that continues to grow year by year until today, in a kind of vital balance that never ceases to be exercised.
